Ayame Jinguuji (神宮寺 菖蒲 Jingūji Ayame) is the Minister of Environment and head of the Supernatural Disaster Countermeasures Division during the Ga-Rei: Zero who is presumed to be unknown after her confrontation with Yomi Isayama, thus explaining why her grandmother, Fujiko Mine, returns to take her place as the Minister of Environment, but she is seen alive in the last episode.

Personality[]

Ayame is a kind-hearted and friendly young woman with a relaxed air. Despite likable, she is very serious who earns her respect from her subordinates.

Background[]

In Episode 11, it is hinted that Ayame may be married (thus suggesting that Jinguji may actually be her husband's family name). She is shown taking out a ring and a photograph of her before she became crippled, holding onto a man whose face is not shown.

During her confrontation with Yomi Isayama, Ayame states that she once killed someone more important to her, hinting that her husband may have suffered corruption himself and was killed by her.

Etymology[]

  • The name Ayame means "iris (flower)" (菖蒲).
  • Ayame's surname Jinguuji means "Shinto shrine" (神宮) (jinguu) and "temple" (寺) (ji).

Trivia[]

  • Ayame is the only person who addresses the spiritual beasts (chiefly Ranguren) with nicknames that end in "-chan" (e.g. Ranguren as Ran-chan).
  • The wheels on Ayame's wheelchair are inscribed to ward off spirits and it is shown she fights quite well, having been able to combat Yomi Isayama briefly.
